In part 2 of the series, we would be looking into how to craft an interesting CV to make it uniquely you!

If you haven’t read part 1 of the series, you can read it here!

To capture the employer’s attention with your CV, you can craft your CV into an experiential narrative. It can include your volunteer work, the role you undertook in your club, and your hobbies. These experiences are all unique to you! It’s especially important that this narrative showcases the soft skills you have gained through these experiences and most importantly your personality.

Focus on achievements and quantify them

Which of the two is more appealing?

Writing about what you have accomplished rather than what you do on a day-to-day basis amplifies your abilities. Hence allowing you to sell yourself to the employer as it demonstrates the value you can bring to your next job.

Consider using the CAR (Challenge-Action-Results) model. This model consists of 3 steps where you describe the challenge that you faced, the actions you took to address the issue, and the outcome achieved from your actions. It is important to quantify your results as it highlights your capabilities, thus increasing your desirability as a candidate!

Include your experiences with your clubs and societies

Incorporating these experiences will complement and highlight skills that you are unable to demonstrate in other areas. Especially for those that do not have prior work experience, this can bring attention to the transferable skills that you have gained during your stint with your school’s club or society.

Transferable skills are important as it not only shows your value but also the value that you can bring to the organization. This makes you more valuable to the employers as compared to another candidate who doesn’t have them!

Interesting CV About Me

Are you a fun and outgoing person who is very well traveled? Showcase your personality and let the employer know more about you, as more employers are hiring by personality rather than just experience. Moreover, employers can assess if you are a good fit with the company’s culture. If you are, this adds points for you as well!

Adding on, writing about the type of jobs that you are interested in increases your chances as well, as candidates who are excited and interested in the job are always preferred!
